Project Type:
- Cleaning of chemical residues at a distribution and storage facility
- Selective excavation of soils in a streambed affected by chemical discharge
- Sewer system cleaning following the passage of chemical effluents
Conceptual Framework:
- Chemical storage and distribution facility. Impact caused by a fire that led to the spillage of chemical products over pavement, sewer system, and into a nearby stream. Affected by multiple chemical compounds.
Decontamination via selective excavation:
- Preliminary soil characterization
- Determination of soil management routes
- Selective excavation
- Temporary soil stockpiling
- Disposal in Class III landfill
- Verification of remaining soils
- Backfilling with imported soil
Objective:
Cleaning of pavement and sewer network. Selective removal of contaminated soils.
Results:
- Excavation area: 650 m²
Excavated soil volume:
- Class III soils: 178 m³
- C&D waste: 57 m³
Managed tonnage:
▪ Class III: 301 tons
▪ C&D waste: 107 tons
