Sand washing to remove spilled insulating oil
As this was a protected natural area of special interest, the project was designed to recover 100% of the sands and waters affected by the hydrocarbon spill.
In just 3 weeks of work, GeoAmbient used soil washing techniques to remove oil from 1,300 m³ of sand at Cala Mesquida, Mallorca.
Additionally, around 6,000 m³ of water were treated to recover pure oil and reduce dissolved hydrocarbon concentrations.
Final verification of the sand and water quality confirmed that the health risk to people had been eliminated.
Specific processes for more sustainable management
After obtaining the demolition permit, the developer discovered that various types of waste still remained on the site, including underground tanks containing pure product.
GeoAmbient developed a specific recovery and management plan tailored to each waste type. In just 3 weeks, more than 30 types of waste—both liquid and solid—were recovered and managed, many of them classified as hazardous.
